Critical safety information for Inspire patients who need an MRI scan

⚠️ Important MRI Safety Notice

Model 3028 (Inspire V) is MRI-conditional - safe for full-body MRI scans at 1.5 Tesla with specific conditions.

Model 3024 (older version) is NOT MRI-safe - MRI scans are contraindicated.

Always carry your Inspire device ID card and inform your radiologist before scheduling an MRI. Contact our office if you're unsure of your model number.

Before Your MRI

  • Verify your Inspire model number (check device ID card or call our office)
  • Inform your radiologist that you have an Inspire device
  • Bring your device ID card to the MRI facility
  • Contact our office to coordinate with the MRI facility if needed

After Your MRI

  • Test your remote control to ensure it's working properly
  • Schedule a follow-up appointment with our office
  • Report any unusual sensations or symptoms immediately
  • We may perform a device interrogation to verify proper function

Travel Tips

Flying, TSA security, and maintaining therapy while traveling with Inspire

TSA Security Checkpoints

Your Inspire device will set off metal detectors. Here's how to navigate TSA security smoothly:

  • 1.Carry your Inspire device ID card in your wallet or purse
  • 2.Inform TSA agents you have an implanted medical device before screening
  • 3.Request a pat-down instead of going through the metal detector
  • 4.Body scanners (millimeter wave) are safe and preferred over metal detectors
  • 5.Handheld metal detectors should not be held over the device for extended periods

Packing & Travel Essentials

  • Pack your remote in carry-on luggage (never check it)
  • Bring extra remote batteries (CR2032 coin cell batteries)
  • Carry your device ID card and implant information
  • Keep our office contact information accessible
  • Consider bringing a backup remote if traveling internationally

International Travel

When traveling internationally, download a translated copy of your Inspire device information in the local language if possible. Contact our office before extended international trips, and consider purchasing travel insurance that covers medical device issues.
