What can I expect during an overnight sleep study?

You'll arrive around 7:30 PM. Our RPSGT technician will greet you, show you to your private suite, and explain the process. They'll apply wireless sensors (20-30 minutes), then you'll relax until your normal bedtime. The tech monitors remotely throughout the night. In the morning (around 6 AM), sensors are removed and you're free to go. Most patients report the experience is far more comfortable than expected.

Will the sensors and wires keep me from sleeping?

We use the advanced Nox Medical™ wireless system, which eliminates most cables. You can move freely, use the restroom, and change positions without being tethered to a wall. While sensors may feel slightly unusual at first, most patients fall asleep normally.

How long does it take to get my sleep study results?

Results available within 1 week or less. Our RPSGT technicians score your study, and Dr. Jain personally reviews every report (not outsourced). You'll receive a follow-up to review results, discuss diagnosis, and create a treatment plan. If sleep apnea is diagnosed, we offer CPAP alternatives, Inspire therapy, and Genio therapy. Much faster than hospital systems (4-6 weeks).

Is a sleep study covered by insurance?

Most insurance plans cover diagnostic sleep studies when ordered by a physician for symptoms like snoring, breathing pauses, daytime fatigue, or high blood pressure. We verify your insurance benefits before scheduling and provide a cost estimate. Our team handles all prior authorizations.

Can I do a home sleep test instead of coming to the lab?

Home sleep tests (HSATs) are appropriate for uncomplicated obstructive sleep apnea cases in adults. However, they cannot diagnose narcolepsy, restless legs, parasomnias, or central sleep apnea. If symptoms are complex, if you have heart/lung disease, or if a home test is negative but symptoms persist, an in-lab study is necessary.

Do you perform MSLT (Multiple Sleep Latency Test) for narcolepsy?

Yes. We perform MSLTs on Saturdays to minimize work disruption. The MSLT is the gold standard for diagnosing narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia. It requires an overnight study the night before, followed by five 20-minute nap opportunities throughout the next day.

We are unable to accommodate partners or family members during studies. We perform adult studies only. For pediatric patients, Dr. Jain has privileges at pediatric sleep labs. For cases requiring a caretaker or higher level of care, we can refer to facility-based labs.

What if I need to use the bathroom during the night?

Accepted Answer

Our wireless Nox system allows you to disconnect quickly and use the restroom freely. Simply press the call button and the technician will briefly disconnect you. This is a major advantage of our wireless technology-you're not trapped in bed like with traditional wired systems.
